Angry Birds Space – Review
The longly awaited new version of Angry Birds just came out, Rovio made it big! At day 1, it was simply the number 1 downloaded app in almost every country in the region: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, etc.
We had to test the game, but I downloaded it with a bit of a doubt: is it really possible to give the simplistic gameplay of the first version a longer lifetime? Very unlikely…
Wrong, wrong, wrong! But first, I do have to explain the game for the one guy who doesn’t know it. In short: you have to shoot birds at pigs using a sling, that’s the concept, and now it happens in space.
Having the game happening in space was the smartest idea: not only it adds a lot of new options for level designs, it even improves the basis of the gameplay itself. No more full-power only shooting: you have to be smarter and sharper so your birds won’t fly out of gravity, that’s brilliant.
They kept everything simple: the usual user interface, a comic book styled story, clean graphics, cute sounds… Rovio didn’t fall into the trap of overdoing things, even though it has a colossal amount of money in bank. The game keeps the simple and friendly look and feel of a casual indie game, however it’s clear that it has been thought about with a lot of attention, tested and tested again, every little glitch got fixed. I would say they eventually did that a little too much: mistakes sometime give personality to a title, here there are none of them.
Well, I would add that I’m not a big fan of the music, personal taste maybe? On another side, I’m really enjoying playing with orbits and zero gravity levels.
No bad surprise, Angry Birds Space is a good game, check it out.
